By order of the Governor, the Y Wellness Facility will remain closed through April 23rd in compliance with the mandates to help slow the spread of the illness.
At the Alleghany Highlands YMCA, everything we do is guided by our commitment to support our community, and this is even more critical now. When you belong to the Y, you are not only a member of a health and wellness facility, you are a member of an organization dedicated to strengthening our community.
Stand with Us!
Our goal is to remain fully focused on our efforts to help our community stay strong in spirit, mind and body.
To continue to support our community we are in discussions with the proper local authorities to potentially offer emergency childcare for essential personnel and will provide additional information as details emerge.
During this time, contractual obligations for building maintenance, fire safety and security, operations, insurance, etc. must be maintained in order to reopen our doors when given the green light. We have reduced our energy use as much as we can and searched for all possible means of reducing costs during this time, but we don’t know if or when the coronavirus spending bill will benefit the Y.
Virtual Group Exercise Classes
We are rolling out resources to keep our members and participants safely connected, active and healthy during this time in spirit, mind and body. A selection of virtual group exercise classes is available on our website and more will be added in the next few days.
We have also begun to offer Facebook Live workouts, challenges and Reverse the Hearse nutrition classes. Be sure to “like” the Alleghany Highlands YMCA to take advantage of these opportunities!
We Are Using This Time Wisely!
The strength (plate loaded) equipment recently sent off to be refurbished has returned and is in the process of being rebuilt. An additional Helix upright Lateral Trainer was delivered on Thursday and will be assembled soon. This purchase had been finalized prior to the onset of the COVID-19 crisis.
Our CEO and Health & Wellness Director are donating paint for the wellness center (weight room) in order to create a pleasant atmosphere for our returning members and we need a small number of volunteers that are willing to help.
Are you, or someone that you know, willing to help with maintenance projects? We can use volunteers to help with lawn care and weeding, painting, power washing and general sprucing around the Y. Of course, we will ensure to maintain social distancing and sanitizing protocols during any of these efforts. Those willing to volunteer may contact Darlene Thomas at (540) 862-8681 or by email, email@example.com.
The CEO is in daily contact with our Y peers throughout the state and nation, all sharing resources and best practices in this time of uncertainty. Please take time to watch the YouTube video of our united Ys in Virginia.
Stand With Us! as we continue to support and strengthen our community. We wish you and your family good health. Thank you for being a Y member!
Yours in service,
Jennifer Unroe, Chief Executive Officer
