#GIVINGTUESDAY is DECEMBER 3, 2019
Forget about Black Friday and Cyber Monday. At the Y, we're officially kicking off the holiday season on December 3, 2019 by participating in #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving.
WHAT IS #GIVINGTUESDAY?
#GivingTuesday is a day dedicated to giving back. Coinciding with the Thanksgiving Holiday and the kickoff of the holiday shopping season, #GivingTuesday's goal is to inspire personal philanthropy, volunteerism, and to encourage giving during the holiday season.
Taking place December 3rd - the day after CyberMonday - #GivingTuesday is a great way to contribute in honor of someone special on your Christmas gift list, or to a charity near and dear to YOUR heart.
On Tuesday, December 3rd, please consider your gift to The Alleghany Highlands YMCA!
This year, there are two projects very near and dear to our hearts for which we are encouraging donations:
- Safety and Security for the West Learning Center. Due to fire code a second set of doors on the upper level of the West Learning Center must remain unlocked from the inside in order for children and staff to safely leave the building in the event of a fire. However, it is important to us that we keep our children and staff out of harms way and prevent unauthorized people from accessing the classrooms. A total of $2,500 is needed to install a magnetic locking mechanism and keypad for this set of doors.
- Teen Programming. The YMCA's goal is to provide young people with a safe place to socialize, seek support and participate in activities that build healthy bodies, leadership skills, prepare them for careers and success as an adult. A GivingTuesday goal of $3,500 will enable the Y to create a teen lounge area where students can do homework, get tutoring help, or just socialize with their peers.
